M4, m4, M04, or M-4 may refer to:

M4 (computer language)

m4 is a general-purpose macro processor included in all UNIX-like operating systems, and is a component of the POSIX standard.

The language was designed by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie for the original versions of UNIX. It is an extension of an earlier macro processor m3, written by Ritchie for the AP-3 minicomputer.

The macro preprocessor operates as a text-replacement tool. It is employed to re-use text templates, typically in computer programming applications, but also in text editing and text-processing applications. Most users require m4 as a dependency of GNU autoconf.

M4 (missile)

The M4 was a French submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) deployed on the nuclear s (except the Redoutable herself, which was not refitted).

They entered service on the 1 May 1985. They were the first French MIRV-capable nuclear missiles, with six 150 kilotonne warheads.

They were replaced by the improved M45 SLBM missile which is currently in active service aboard the .

M4 is an EP recorded by Canadian indie rock band Faunts in 2006. The EP was largely unknown until "M4 (Part II)" was played over the credits of the 2007 video game Mass Effect.

M4 (Istanbul Metro)

M4, officially referred to as the M4 Kadıköy–Kartal line , is a , 16-station rapid transit line of the Istanbul Metro. Running between Kadıköy and Kartal, it is the only rapid transit line operating on the Asian side of Istanbul. The M4 mostly runs under State road D100, parallel to the Istanbul-Ankara Main Line and is entirely underground.

The M4 opened on 17 August 2012 with a large ceremony in Kadıköy, in which Recep Tayyip Erdoğan personally took part in. On 29 October 2013, with the opening of Marmaray rail service under the Bosphorus, Ayrılık Çeşmesi station was opened to allow passengers to transfer between lines.
