Acosta (crater)

Acosta is a small lunar impact crater located just to the north of the prominent crater Langrenus, near the east edge of Mare Fecunditatis. To the west are the trio of Atwood, Naonobu, and Bilharz. Acosta is named after the Portuguese naturalist Cristóvão da Costa.

The crater is circular and bowl-shaped, with a small interior floor at the midpoint of the sloping inner walls. This crater was designated Langrenus C prior to being renamed by the IAU.

Acosta is a Spanish and Portuguese surname. Originally it was used to refer to a person who lived by the seashore or from the mountains (encostas). It comes from the Portuguese da Costa ( cognate of English "coast"), which in Spanish became de Acosta.

Acosta (canton)

Acosta is the 12th canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of , and has a population of 19,342. The capital city of the canton is San Ignacio.

The mountainous canton begins in the Cerros de Escazú on the far western edge of the San José Metropolitan Area. It continues west and south between the Río Negro on the north and the Río Jorco on the east to encompass a large portion of the Coastal Mountain Range, ending at the border of Puntarenas Province near the Pacific coast in Parrita Canton.
